Discover Norway and its fjords on a budget, kind of
Norway is breathtaking in so many ways, and its stunning nature is a must for everyone, especially nature lovers. Here is what you can do if you are in Oslo: pack your tent and wool underwear, it gets cold here during the night, and catch a train or bus to Myrdal. It is approximately a 4,30 hours ride with prices for a round trip starting at 35EUR.
From Myrdal, the adventure starts, the famous Flåm Railway, believed to be one of the most beautiful train rides in the world. It is just one hour long, but one hour of some of the most magnificent mountain scenery. In addition, it is one of the steepest railway tracks in the world. In Flåm, you can discover the epic beauty and ancient mystique of the fjords. You will sometimes feel as if you are in the land of The Lord of the Rings but without the orcs. Local restaurants are not many as Flåm is a pretty small place, but there is a good variety and vegetarian friendly options. Try some local delicacies and local craft beer at Bakkastova Café. Some days just go for a budget version in the supermarket.
Flåm is located in the beautiful Aurlandsfjorden, a branch of Sognefjorden, so fjord experience is the thing to do here. You can do a 1,5-hour fjord safari with a boat for 70EURper person.
Stegastein viewing platform, 650 meters above Aurlandsfjord is another cool thing to do. It is just stunning. Go for an organized trip with a bus. It costs approximately 35EUR and takes about 1,5 hours.
You can also take a bus to Myrkdalen Ski Resort for a 30EUR round trip and spend the whole day in the beautiful mountain surroundings overweening the fjords. There you have many options if you wish guided biking or hiking tours. A guided e-bike half-day tour costs 50EUR a person and is suitable for everyone over 13 years old. You can either do a tour from 1 to 3 pm or 2 to 5 pm.
